A famous souvenir in Kamakura is Hato Sablé (鳩サブレー。lit. Pigeon Biscuit). I believed I could buy it anywhere Japan but actually not. When I was staying in other area from Kanto area (Eastern side of Japan), I haven’t seen it being sold. However, many people there know Hato Sablé. It must be famous in all areas of Japan.
What is Hato Sablé?
Very simply saying, it is a cookie (biscuit?) shaped a pigeon. Yes, just a cookie. However, thanks to the not-too-hard crispiness and the rich butter flavor, I like it very much.
The ingredients are fantastic!!
Wheat flour, sugar, butter, hen’s eggs and baking powder. That’s all!!
I was moved by no shortening…
The individual package seems to have been changed, recently. It was designed to prevent from getting broken. Wow, it is awesome!!
Can you see it? A point of the package was heated to fix an inside sablé.
How wonderful, Hato Sablé is!! Each thing is small, but I cannot feeling their passion for delivering good things for customers. It must be hospitality.
The manufacturer and seller of Hato Sablé is a traditional Japanese confectionary shop, Toshimaya (豊島屋)
Main Shop Limited Hato Sablé (Box)!!
Toshimaya offers Hato Sablé in the main shop limited box!!
Yes, the inside Hato Sablé is same as others.
But the box is very cute, so, I bought!
There are many personified pigeons.
You can find other pegions when you opens the box. Please see them by yourself!!
They are located in Kanagawa Prefecture and Tokyo Prefecture.
You can buy online too.オンラインでも購入ができます。
You can buy it from Amazon.co.jp or Rakuten, however, Toshimaya says the official online shops are only their own online shop or online shops by department stores which Toshimaya acknowledges.
